Too skimpy (2007-02-14)
This book has too little information for a med student, even in first or second year. A few areas are relatively well covered, but it’s neither basic enough to be used as a learning tool nor detailed enough to be used as a reference. I use it once in a while, but only in conjuction with Harrison’s, UptoDate, and other such references. You’ll still need to go back to a Pathololgy and a Physiology text to find what you’re looking for.Amazon Site Review. (2006-03-11)
I appreciate the promptness with which your company sends its products out, and I also appreciate that they remain in the new condition on arrival to me. Thank You. One drawback I have seen to your site is that when you end up being late sending an item there are times when you back the date up for several more weeks, which when your a student you need these books to arrive as soon as possible to keep up with reading assignments.Excellent Pathophysiology book (2004-12-11)
This is an excellent pathophysiology book available in the market. I am right now preparing for my step 2 but I wish I would have used this book for my step 1. I have a decent score on my step 1 and I have taken the exam recently and I think if somebody masters this book they can rock the exam. This book gives excellent information regarding many diseases. I am trying to study this book right now with CMDT, which is also by the same author. Because CMDT is a very concise text book of IM it doesn’t explain all the pathophysiology for a disease but this book has all the answers about the pathophysiology of a disease. And I think its a worth buying book for all the medical students, if you study this book little by little during preclinical years it will help you very much understand the IM in the clinical years. I was surprize to find some infornation which I was craving for since few years of my med school. You will even find pathophysilogy of very rare syndromes, as for example I was amazed when I read about X linked Hypophosphatemic rickets. If you are like me who wants to have explanation behind everything, get this book today, you wan’t be disappointed.Graduate Nursing Student (2004-03-27)
I found the book vague and unclear. It was recommended as a "reference" book for a graduate level pathophysiology course and it was the first book I returned. There are several other books on pathophysiology that are on the market for about the same price or a bit more that are MUCH more thorough and useful for undergraduate, graduate or medical student reference. I would NOT recommend this book for anyone looking at any type of indepth medical information.Very confusing book for USMLE prep (2003-08-24)
Hi there first of all I would like to say that I am from Brazil, Recife, Pernambuco. I went to a university called UPE, FESP which is in the north east part of Brazil. I bought this book because I thought that it would complement BRS pathologyı
But it really didnıt so as I thought that it would;
I mean it does but its like discussing too much one some points so its just not really a good book for the USMLE step1 prep; I was actually led to think that because of something I had read on the first aid book that said that ı
Really did not like the book at all for the usmle prep. Although you can see that itıs a very well made book and they put their hearts into making it but itıs just not good enough for the boards.
Itıs not serving me any good I barely opened it since I bought it and I got their latest edition it was sort of a waste of money for meı I think that this book might be of value for the students at UCSF that are taking classes on introduction to medicine or something like thatı
But for the usmle? Forget itı!!!
Itıs really confusing, and there are no simple index for a particular disease, meaning If you look for something in specific it will be related with some many things that you wont see it right there; there wonıt be simple diseases listed there for you to look at like thatı
Every time I go look for something its not there or itıs in contest with something else makes you loose so much time looking at it to find itı Itıs a very good book but not to be used as a complement to BRS pathology unless youıre taking the class.
Hope that this was of help to some of youı
Dr.Claudio A.G.Monteiro Filho.

A fun new take on a classic novel! (2005-09-20)
A glance will tell you that the artwork in this adaptation is gorgeous to look at — that the appealing character designs, bold layouts, saturated blacks and expressive style will be pleasing to page through. What’s less obvious but just as true is that this is, in fact, as faithful and engrossing an adaptation as you could ask for in 144 pages. Cavallaro managed to condense “Oz” without losing the details, pacing or flavor of the original — I hope he signs on for more projects with Puffin Graphics, as this was a delight to read!

Erotic gay suspence story (2007-08-04)
The overbearing Charles Iverson Stuart III and his son, Charles IV, have been kidnapping handsome young men, imprisoning them in a purpose built dungeon and subjecting them to torture and brutal rape. The abductions go unreported until they pick on aspiring TV actor Frank DeSilva. Frank seeks help from therapist Dr Bruce Macleod, but for obvious reasons he does not want to go to the police. However when the police direct two more victims to Dr MacLeod as consultant it seems that they have the beginnings of an investigation that cannot be avoided.

The handsome Dr Macleod himself is gay, and into S&M, or SM as he prefers, something enjoyed between loving and willing partners. Things become complicated when Bruce recognises the reciprocated stirrings of attraction with his purportedly straight client Frank, and while his professional ethics won’t allow him to act on these feelings while he is counselling Frank, that doesn’t stop the two of them getting together immediately he discharges him.

What future though is there for Bruce with Frank, who is concerned about the effects any hints of his being gay would have on his acting career, and how will Frank react to Bruce’s SM interests. What chance is there of stopping the two sadistic abductors before they go too far when their victims refuse to go public through fear of humiliation.

Larry Townsend creates an interesting tale with likeable characters; one even feels a touch of sympathy for the young Charles IV. Masters’ Counterpoints is a story of suspense, a detective thriller and a love story which includes, but is not dominated by, plenty of explicit action as each victim describes to Dr MacLeod in detail his treatment at the hands of his abductors.

Adventure, Love, S/M, Incest (2006-01-10)
“A handsome actor is kidnapped, tortured, and raped by two men who keep him blindfolded throughout the ordeal. His therapist, Bruce MacLeod, soon discovers other men in town who have gone through the same experiences. MacLeod’s investigation leads to adventure, love, S/M sex … and a father-son partnership that’s gone too far.”–© zebraz

Dr. Folkman’s War (2008-02-26)
Spectacular, but not a quick read! If you or someone you know has cancer, then this is a must read. The author did a marvelous job of chronicaling the research path to great discoveries for cancer. Unfortunately, Dr. Folkman passed away last month but after reading this book you will have a better understanding of the legacy of important research he left behind and how it is continuing by the minuteGreat book….. (2006-07-31)
This book is great gives a good understanding of the research community and the search to understand angiogenisis.Dr. Folkmans War (2005-10-03)
This book is a very well done documentary of the trials Dr. Folkman went through to have his ideas on cancer treatment considered. His ideas are now becoming the new approach, offering much needed hope for patients and their families. For anyone interested in cancer, this book is worthwhile.Dr. Folkman is my hero — a story better than SeaBiscuit! (2003-11-12)
This book by Robert Cooke is incredible! Mr. Cooke is able to explain to the average layperson the medical concepts of angeiogeneis conceived by the most under-valued person of our time: Dr. Judah Folkman. Dr. Folkman is to cancer what Salk was to Polio! Personally, Dr. Judah Folkman is my hero! A real hero, deserving of the Nobel Prize….and I don’t speak lightly. I am a cancer patient that has recently learned that my cancer (thought was beat) has advanced to my lungs. The ONLY therapy for me is in an ANGIOGENESIS drug therapy program for a drug currently in study and labeled as "PI-88." I am just so confident this drug will work. I am the only patient with my type of cancer cell (adenoid cystic carninoma), so I am a little bit more of a lab rat for this program.

God Bless Dr. Folkman and h is incredible perserverance! His story should be a movie—-a tale better than SeaBiscuit! He is my SeaBiscuit!

LHHCure for cancer? (2002-02-07)
Chances are someone close to you has succumbed to the ravages of cancer, while you and the medical establishment could only sit by and watch the process reach its inevitable conclusion. The good news is, for nearly 40 years, Dr. Judah Folkman has been pursuing a cure for cancer — or at least a way to fight tumors more effectively than chemotherapy or radiation — that only until very recently has garnered serious attention. Dr. Folkman’s theory is called angiogenesis, the process by which cancer cells emit an agent which triggers the growth of blood vessels to feed the growth of the cancer itself. For years Dr. Folkman’s idea was basically scoffed at as the flailings of an amateur researcher, but Cooke shows how Dr. Folkman has perservered — while maintaining his brilliant career as a physician — and eventually, through a slow accumulation of experimental evidence, as well as the discovery of several antiangionesis agents, turned opinion around. Throughout this engaging and fascinating retelling of Folkman’s journey, Cooke also provides an eye-opening account of the workings of academia, medical research, and their relationships to those Orwellian biotech companies you keep hearing about. The science is clear and vivid, the battle to defeat cancer inspiring, and the promise of victory — thankfully, finally — just around the corner.

A must buy (2008-02-17)
If you want to work for Uncle then you must have this book. After toiling for over a year trying to work for Uncle and getting nowhere, I bought this book. I spent a day revamping my resume as it describes and have been knee deep in responses ever since. If you want your resume to be in the right format to get you in the door then buy this book. If you want to continue hawking on the street or playing a fiddle for change then by all means do not buy this book.Resourceful Book! (2007-12-24)
I purchased this book after numerous failed attempts at being considered for various govt positions.

Literally after giving my resume a govt makeover with the suggestions from the book I’ve been considered for a total of four positions since purchasing the book last month.

I consider this a huge success only because I at least know my responses to the KSA questions are strong,

I highly recommed this book - definetly worth it!

The Holy Grail for Federal Job Seekers ! (2007-10-11)
Consider the “Federal Resume Guidebook, Fourth Edition,” as the bible for serious federal job seekers. A few months ago I attended a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class before I retired from the Air Force. The TAP instructor lightly covered federal resumes, KSA’s, etc., I was totally confused. Family, friends, and former co-workers all provided me with advice on how a federal resume should be written, formatted, and distributed. After several misses on the job market I decided to purchase this book. HALLELUJAH ! This book will take you step-by-step on the federal resume process with some excellent federal resume samples you can use on your quest for a career with government agencies. I also decided to invest in the Entry-Level and Mid-Level Assessment Service offered by the authors company, The Resume Place. If your are serious about your federal job search I strongly suggest you purchase this service. You will not be disappointed. One last item, the author Ms. Kathryn Troutman personally provided me with the assessment and offered some great suggestions I had overlooked when I created my resume. WoW, what great customer service. This book certainly deserves a “Five Stars” plus rating. I’m certain I will catch the attention of the federal agencies where I want to work.An indispensable and invaluable reference guide (2007-10-07)
Now in a completely updated and expanded fourth edition, “Federal Resume Guidebook: Strategies For Writing A Winning Federal Electronic Resume, KSAs, And Essays” by federal resume expert, career consultant, and government human resources career trainer Kathryn Kraemer Troutman is a practical and superbly presented compendium of instructions that will readily enable anyone seeking federal employment to maximize the effectiveness of their online resume, analyze federal job announcements, and make the cut for interviews based on an effective presentation of their experiences and qualifications. Job seekers are provided with an illustrative wealth of federal resume samples, detailed procedures, and tips. Of special note is Troutman’s advice for those transitioning from military service to a federal career, and for those transitioning from Wage Grade to General Schedule positions. With instruction on preparing for the new Behavioral Interview process and strategies for advancing a federal career, the “Federal Resume Guidebook” continues to be an indispensable and invaluable reference guide for job seekers regardless of the federal position being sought after. Simply stated, the “Federal Resume Guidebook” is essential for anyone seeking federal employment and is a fundamentally necessary addition to personal, professional, academic, governmental job center, and community library Jobs/Careers reference collections.

Good but we’ll see.. (2007-07-03)
I found this the to be the best book on the federal application process yet. The examples were detailed as well as the explainations with plenty of examples for the professional GS jobs. As far as it’s effectiveness… we’ll see.

Great summer program (2007-06-27)
A friend told me about this book and it has been great for my soon-to-be- starting Kindergartener. It is a great review of things she already learned at pre-school and she loves the idea that this is helping her get ready for school. The summer has just started and she is 1/2 way through the book.Love this series (2006-07-05)
I have been using this series with my children for the last few years…I love it. Their teachers are always impressed with the amount on knowledge they retain over the summer!! I highly recommend this series. My preschooler loves it (2005-07-29)
This book is not teaching my son anything new but he enjoys it. The book is what it says a review of what they did the year before. I like it because its not difficult for him and he can breeze right through. He does enough work so he doesn’t forget what he’s learned and each day is very short so I don’t lose his attention. The incentive contracts is a great motivation system.Good activity book for summer. (2000-06-30)
This book is a nice introduction to kindergarden work. I’d particularly recommend it for kids who already like doing "worksheet" type activities. My son’s older brother has started the 45h-5th bridge activity book, so both signed the contracts in the beginning-if they complete 20 days they get a trip to the toy store, and both work on their books at the same time. This is no substitute for interactive learning, or playing, or reading to them, but keeps skills from getting rusty, and in the case of my pre-kindergardener gets him thinking about the sorts of things he’ll be doing next year.

Written insightfully. You will find both humor and seriousness. He addresses social problems, bureau red-tape, the mob, specific investigations and more.Well worth it; a definite read (1999-02-15)
I found this book to be insightful and well written. Phil Kerby seems to tell you the good and the bad about the FBI. I could feel his pride as I read the book. If you are interested in the FBI, crimefighting, and more, this book is for you. I truly enjoyed it.The Real Thing (1998-09-06)
This is a solid account of FBI work as it really is, showing that agents are neither flawless supermen nor incompetent idiots–that they’re human, in other words. Very readable, too.Exciting! Suspensful! Real-life stories of a retired FBI (1998-04-22)
I read this book in one night; I couldn’t put it down. Kerby vividly decribes the cases he personally worked on in the FBI. You wouldn’t believe some of the stories!

Not enough Meat (2008-01-17)
How can you sum up the life of Newton in roughly 190 pages. This is nothing but a pamphlet of one of the greatest lives of discovery the world has ever known. If your IQ is below 130 and you are looking for good reading go for it, but if you need meat and deeper substance about Newton, this is not where you look.Very well written (2007-12-28)
This book is comprehensive in addressing the themes of Newton’s life, though the introversion of the subject limits the detail which the author could provide. More simply stated, this book is well versed and written, so enjoy!Gave up on it at Chapter 2 (2007-12-10)
I really wish I had liked this book, but I didn’t.

First thing that I noticed is the small volume, I had just read IKE’s bio by Ambrose and in comparison this book seemed more like a brochure than an inclusive biographical work.

What I hated the most was the style. Too pompous for my taste, the author gets in lengthy descriptions on the period and the landscape that surrounded Newton while only giving Isaac himself a mere sentence here and there. I think the author was trying to appeal to a public that doesn’t know who Newton was and did, and therefore finds it appropriate to remind us, on multiple occasions that ‘yes, Newton is the one that invented calculus and before him there was darkness’. I gave the book away to somebody that could appreciate it, hopefully. Fortunately now I know not to buy “Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman” by the same author, I would have been much more upset to read it instead of this book since I’ve been a Feynman fan for years.

Numerous repetition in the descriptions of the era and in the contributions on Newton, I could not force myself to keep on reading. I do not consider this book a serious read, not on the subject Isaac Newton anyway.Life of a giant. (2007-05-24)
The shape of the world we live in has been mostly determined by a few hundred people. Newton is one of those. This is a concise, readable, entertaining bio of one of history’s really great thinkers. Anyone who uses gravity should read it.Good book, but not great. (2007-02-03)
Most of the reviews of this book seem to be reviews of Newton, not the book. To be sure, Newton is one of the most influential scientists who ever lived, but that is not the point. Rather, the point is how good is this book? I liked the book, but not as much as I had hoped to. I found the book to be somewhat flat and un-exciting, the same impression it gives of Newton’s life. There are areas of Newton’s life that could have been presented more dramatically, most specifically his conflict with Robert Hooke. The author paints Hooke as one of those people who claim to have done everything before anyone else. In this book, he is depicted as a blowhard, but in other accounts his claims are given much more weight. (For instance, see “The Scientists” by John Gribbin.) Another point of contention is exactly how indispensable was Newton. Had he not lived, how long would it have taken for others to discover what he did? Being a biography of Newton, it is not surprising that he is painted as being indispensable. Again, this is a point of contention, not hinted at in this book. Much of what Newton did was also done by others (calculus was developed at the same time by Leibniz and it is his version that we use today, not Newton’s). Newton could not have formulated gravity without the work of Kepler, Galileo, and Descartes. Gribbin believes that within a decade of Newton’s death others could have used this same background to develop “Newton’s laws”. The point is not whether Gleick or Gribbin is right, but that Gleick does not even acknowledge that this controversy exists.

All in all, the book lays out the scope of Newton’s life (including the fact that he spent much of the latter part of his life as an alchemist), but in a rather unexciting manner. The important areas of controversy, which aim to evaluate Newton’s position in the pantheon of great scientists, are not even broached. I think that such a discussion would have enriched the book and broadened the outlook of the reader, so that Newton would not be just “the man”, but rather a man among many.
